OUR  MISSION

The Kiwanis Club of Rochester is a local service club, a part of Kiwanis International whose members are dedicated to "Changing the World One Community and One Child at a Time", and improving the lifestyle of disadvantaged citizens living in Rochester and its environs. We have performed voluntary service and assistance to those less fortunate than ourselves, including the poor and needy, youth, and seniors for over 90 years. We are a grass roots organization who conduct fund raising projects to provide programs that support and assist those in need.  The funds Kiwanis raises from the community, are returned to the community. We are a proficient group of caring and involved volunteers doing for the disadvantaged what they cannot do for themselves; that persons working as individuals cannot accomplish; and that the government is unable or unwilling to do.

           CLUB  HISTORY

The Kiwanis Club of Rochester, Inc. was organized on February 9, 1916 at a luncheon meeting at the Powers Hotel in Rochester by local business men and chartered  on May 1, 1916 making it the First New York District club and the Fourth Club chartered in Kiwanis International. George F. Hixson, a noted Rochester attorney was the clubs first President and went on to become the First Kiwanis International President and only one to serve as International President for two years. At one time, the Rochester Club had over 700 members but as the Rochester community began to grow, it became necessary to expand Kiwanis  to areas that did not have the benefit of Kiwanis community service. To accomplish this, members of the club formed new clubs and extended Kiwanis service to four surronding counties; Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, and Stueben in upstate New York under the umbrella of the Genesee Division. After 90 years, the club continues to provide community service to Rochester and surronding areas.
